Furry Friends Adoption, Clinic & Ranch

March 2019

"For The Love Of Animals" features real stories happening at Furry Friends in Jupiter. We are The Humane Society of Greater Jupiter/Tequesta and the only no-kill shelter open to the public in northern Palm Beach County.  We’ve been rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing the homeless animals in our community for more than 30 years. Our not for profit 501c3 organization consists of our Jupiter based adoption center, veterinary clinic (open to the public), thrift store, and Palm City ranch.

Our organization depends on the time, talent and dedication of our volunteers each and every day.  What makes us unique is that we rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home animals, so having a strong volunteer force to help us care for them mentally, physically and emotionally is vital.  Volunteers also provide crucial assistance to our foster and event programs, as well as at our Jupiter-based Thrift Boutique.

You know from reading this article every month that we live for our adoption stories.  The best ones are those in which a volunteer, a member of our Furry Friends’ family, decides to make one of our own a part of their own.  Over the past month, we’ve had three of our amazing volunteers fall in love and adopt. Allow me to share a little about each one:

Adam started volunteering at Furry Friends to fulfill his school community service obligations.  He has walked a lot of our dogs but little Matthew was special to him. Adam tells us this about Matthew, now named Wesley:  "I have been volunteering with Furry Friends for a long time and thought about adopting many dogs. When I saw Wesley, I asked my mom and dad if we could foster him for a weekend to give him a vacation from the shelter. Wesley is the perfect dog. He gets along well with my other dog, Milton, who is also a rat terrier mix my parents adopted 14 years ago, so it was pretty easy to convince my parents to let me adopt him. Wesley loves to be held, ride in the car, and run on the beach."

Carole is another volunteer who knew a furry treasure when she saw one.  Carole took Princess to a recent event in Port St. Lucie and was amazed at how well-behaved and sweet Princess was during the car ride and with the crowd.  Princess didn’t get adopted at the event but Carole emailed us that night telling us that she wanted to make Princess her own. At a recent visit with our Chief Veterinarian, Dr. Vinoski, Carole tearfully expressed what Princess means to her and how much they love one another.

Kelly, a long-term volunteer, has a house full of Furry Friends.  Her relationship with us started when she adopted Fergie from us years ago.  Sadly, Fergie recently passed away. Kelly writes, “We recently had to put down our FURRY FRIENDS rescue Fergie, a 10 year old pit bull, due to cancer and we were heartbroken! Volunteering one Sunday morning (not looking to adopt any time soon) I came across the sweetest baby ever, a 3 month old Corgi/Shepherd puppy mix that stole my heart! I did not want a puppy or a small dog but he chose me! He is the perfect pup for our family!

I’m sure you agree that these are heart-melting stories, right?  We couldn’t be happier or more honored to be the “Liaison of Love”... forming families with our family members, both human and furry!

Silly, “quite the character” Piper.  This spunky one has been with us since a kitten.  She is now a year old and loves hanging around with her good buddy, Shadow.  Please come meet Purr-fect Piper at Furry Friends in Jupiter!

KC’s exotic eyes beckon you to adopt her.  What a great pup! A 3 year-old hound mix, she adores kids, play time, and being with other dogs (big and small).  She’s just one of those pups who oozes “special-ness”. Please come make her part of your family!

This is what Furry Friends is all about…rescuing, rehabilitating, and giving homeless companion animals their best future… no matter how long it takes to find it.  We have many wonderful dogs and cats in our shelter and invite you to come visit us six days a week. Our hours are Monday through Saturday, 11am to 6pm.

Furry Friends depends on the generous support from donors like you.  Without Furry Friends, the future of the many animals we save would be uncertain.  Thank you for donating and helping us continue our animal saving mission.
